‘The chapel is two centuries old. I’m only thirty.’ – That was a powerful start and an inspired way to convey the doubts, the feeling of unease. Then, the slow reveal, peeling layer after layer off the nice and perfect picture. Loved it.

I tried to create a parallel atmosphere of doubt and undying love. Glad you felt it right from the beginning.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials, please accept this firm handshake and pat on the back in lieu of the wedding gift I forgot to bring (yes, I know you said you wanted none of these things, but I’ve never been one to do as I was told).
Oh, my bad, you’re a runaway groom who’s standing up a flesh and blood woman because you’re holding a flame for an old love who is quite literally a pale shade of her former self (or you’re ghosting your bride-to-be for an actual ghost…I got a million of them and not a single one is any good).
On the upside, Marie will cost you a lot less money in the end, and the only question you need to be on the lookout for is, “Does the afterlife make me look fat?”
The answer is no. It’s always no.
Lol! Rhyan, you never fail to take a story and split it into more. Now the practical side of thinking dictates that the living deserve more attention than the dead. But a heart that can’t let go has reasons of its own. And thanks for the handshake and pat on the back. I didn’t think you would listen in the first place.

I totally understand the man’s situation. I suggest he gets a pet now.
That would be a safer idea for him and others around him. Letting go can be so difficult especially if one doesn’t want to.

It is hard to get over his loss, especially at this stage of life. He would need more time to recover from his loss and get ready for new relationship, however the girl may not want to wait. Love is often tragic due to the fact that whatever we call love is often very narrowly focused. An accident may very well throw it off its course and the recovery is not that easy.
Love isn’t easy. It pulls a person either which way. And loss is often irreplaceable. But then, one mustn’t play with the lives of others. That’s not fair either.
