WELCOME TO TUESDAY FLASH FICTION at GOBBLERS/MASTICADORES!

A man can’t make up his mind.

Is he really the way he wants to be?

People don’t care for him much.

It could be his outlook and attitude.

He’s a far cry from being A REAL GENTLEMAN.

Tell me the truth and I’ll turn it into a lie. Give me hope and I’ll squeeze till every ounce of its goodness bleeds from it. I’m the guy you never wanted to sit next to in school or on the bus. It’s a long story and I’ll never tire from telling it. Bet you […]

  1. Very astute character study, Terveen. ‘I could’ve been a real gentleman. But then there would be too many’. What a brilliant excuse. Your character is quite something. Wouldn’t want to meet him, that’ for sure, although I have a sneaky suspicion that most of us know people just like him. I felt very sorry for the mother. Great piece of flash fiction.

    • Thanks so much, Britta. And you’re right. There’s always someone like that either lurking in the backdrop or right under our noses. And mothers often bear the brunt on account of their children. Oh, a mother’s love and tolerance… 🙂

  2. Excuses and solutions are two different things and the gentleman in question knew that. That’s the scary part, I suppose, that he looks in the mirror and knows. He made the reader look too.

    Another great story!

    • Thanks a lot. I agree with you. Excuses just lead people away from solutions. But many know that and still choose to be ignorant for their own convenience. Imagine staring at your own reflection and knowing that you can be so much more but are settling for so much less. Your words got the thought process going. 🙂

  3. A piercing look into the mind of a bad guy. Jeez, several people came to mind immediately (trump, my dad, any bully I’ve ever known, etc.). You really nailed this, Terveen. You’ve got a way of creating perfect characters, and especially imperfect ones. I could see this guy become the main character in a horror novel, his darkness subduing everyone in his path. Great job! 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Mike. It’s hard when our own family or loved ones are out to ruin themselves and will stop at nothing to blame others. Maybe their minds can’t process logic and negativity overwhelms them. Horror is very much the darkness of real life with some exaggerations. Take care and be well. Appreciate all your thoughts and words. 🙂

    • Thanks so much, John. I appreciate it. 🙂
And I’m sure we know many who could fit into this man’s shoes.

  4. Actually he shows his evil side so obviously, which makes him easy to avoid. The really dangerous ones are those who know how to disguise themselves and we have to be really careful with them…

    • Yes, the ones who hide behind masks are the ones who can be the most dangerous. Must tread carefully and not trust so easily. Thanks a lot for the wise words. 🙂

  5. I’m confused as to where I’m at on this lovely blog. Sorry. I commented on the story in the link.
