Shobana Gomes is an excellent poetess and writer. Her writing speaks volumes of her talent and her insightful observations of life. There’s much love and wisdom in her words.

I WRITE BECAUSE…

This was the theme of Simply Shobana’s Poetry Contest.

For any writer or poet, it’s a question that makes one dive beneath layers of skin, muscle, thought, emotion, and hurt.

Ah HURT! It’s a painful word but the driving force behind many creative endeavors.

How can one deny this wondrous fact?

And diving at the opportunity, I submitted my words, a poem, on why I write and what the craft of writing means to me.

The winners were announced today, and I am overjoyed to share that I am one of them.

YAYYY!

It’s a great feeling to express, but even a better feeling to impress.

HAHA! Writers can be snooty.

My poem is titled – I WRITE TO BE.

  1. Congratulations! That is a wonderful poem. I did not know you write poems. You should write more of them 🙂

  2. Thank you for the mention, Terveen. It is a great feeling to be appreciated. You deserved the win. You wrote a very meaningful and remarkable poem. Yes, we writers are a snooty lot, haha. No telling what runs in our minds sometimes. Have a great week.

    • Thanks so much, Shobana! It was a wonderful initiative. Had fun writing the poem. Anything related to writing gets me excited and geared up. A writer’s mind should be left alone. Haha! You have a great week too. 🙂

  3. Congratulations, Terveen! I loved your poem; I found it moving, touching, and inspiring, my dear friend; and, I loved the part, what I got from it, about emotions being a catalyst for writing. So very true. Wonderful. 🤗

    • Thank you so much, Jeff. Emotions definitely guide a writer’s heart, mind, and hand. May the words flow unabashed. I appreciate your support and encouragement. 🙂

      • You’re most welcome, Terveen. Always. As I also appreciate your support and encouragement, my friend. 🤗

  4. “Ah HURT! It’s a painful word but the driving force behind many creative endeavors.” That’s so true. Pain makes us more alive. I mean certain amount of pain and not too much to make us despair. Life is a quest. LOL.

    • Yes, pain should never debilitate a person. Then it’s just a distraction and makes the simple and easy things even harder. Pain should inspire one to move forward no matter what. That’s the birth of resilience, a great power.
      Thank you so much! 🙂

  5. Beautifully written poem Terveen. Your words spoke to my heart through this piece.

“My tears cleanse the pages, my words mend the sadness
Neither writer nor poet, simply amateurish endeavor
    Finding purpose, piecing together reasons
To cast out the darkness, wishing for tomorrow’s madness”

    Lovely piece.

    Hugs, Joni

    • I think we are more alike than we know, Joni. You’re such a sweetheart. Your goodness is so pure and beautiful. I’m so glad we crossed paths. Must thank the stars. We both write so that we can understand. 🙂

      • Terveen, thank you so much for your kindness. I appreciate your very thoughtful words. I too, am very glad that we met. I truly believe that many of the people we meet are there for a purpose. You are right we are probably more alike than we know. You are also right about writing to help me to understand and to question. Thank you so much for this special comment. Have a blessed day. 🤗❤️
